Stiffer sentances for gun crime? I don't get it...the prisons are over populated now, now they want to make new laws that are going to make lac criminals and lock them up?

Amazing. 7 also seems completely arbitrary. I'm sure there is some reason for it.
.
Because it is a very effective way of eliminating the legal use of most semi-autos. Well at least until manufactures can pump out what we will soon be calling "NY mags".

Watch for a mass exodus from NY. I wonder if there is such a thing as a petition to kick NY out of the United States, and make it a separate, 3rd world country...

Must watch Escape from New York again...Maybe John Carpenter meant 2013...
"In 1988, the crime rate in the United States rises four hundred percent. The once great city of New York becomes the one maximum security prison for the entire country. A fifty-foot containment wall is erected along the New Jersey shoreline, across the Harlem River, and down along the Brooklyn shoreline. It completely surrounds Manhattan Island. All bridges and waterways are mined. The United States Police Force, like an army, is encamped around the island. There are no guards inside the prison, only prisoners and the worlds they have made. The rules are simple: once you go in, you don't come out."

There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals. When there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. - Ayn Rand

If driving through NYS with a firearm you are by law allowed to do so. so long as you do not stop. once. you can travel through. but not to. if oyu plan on stopping or staying. then you are now breaking the law.

2) when 7 rounds is challenged in court, if this part of the law is overturned, is the whole bill nullified, or can just parts be overturned?

parts and peices of laws can be changed, fought, repealled without it effecting other sections.

3) almost all semi-automatic pistols don't have 7 round magazines available or any magazine available to be NY legal. What if the OEM refuses to produce new mags?

then we have a lot of single shot slide pistols.

4) the new law says you must sell your old mags out of state within 1 year. Does a state government have the right to force you to sell your property?

IDK

5) what about military forced to be stationed in NY? Do they have to sell their property or do they have any protection under the soldiers and sailors act?
IDK
6) what are the prospects of this law being put in injunction and/or being over-turned? What is the time frame that all this would take?
IDK

I'm sorry, no I cannot confirm because all 3 websites I just read made it SOUND like its already a done deal. I think were waiting on NY Assembly for the gavel to fall.

3 headlines I just came across....but the actual article says otherwise and confirms Assembly hasnt yet made final vote:

"NY seals 1st state gun laws since Newtown massacre" -Seattle

"New York State Gun Laws The First In Country Since Sandy Hook" -HP

"New York Lawmakers Reach Deal on New Gun Curbs" -NYT

I feel really bad for new York gun owners. I hope they flock out of there. Move to PA and help vote more pro-gun people into office.
