If, what you imply, is correct, and 2/3 of our lawmakers are in favor of addional gun controls, then, in our American way of government, what do you think should happen? The basis premise of a Democracy is the same as in Robert's Rules of Order: The minority must be heard, but the majority must rule.
Rember this is a "conditional" argument. The key words are "if" and "then."

I thought thought the minority is protected from the majority because we are A REPUBLIC and a nation of laws.

The minority opinion must be heard, the majority must rule. That is what Democracy is all about. When the minority is allowed to rule, we will no longer be either a Democracy or a Republic.
I can't believe that you have difficulty grasping that notion.

Then you are opposed to Gay marriage and abortion? That is a very interesting stand for a liberal? These are both political stands not supported by the majority.
Chain I will ask you again? What kind of gun control would you like to see impossed on American gun owners?

We as a nation are not a democracy.
In the wisdom of the founders the House comes up for election every 2 years, a 3rd of the Senate is up for election every 2 years. I contend that if gridlock is the will of the people, (2010 midterm) it has its purpose. We shall see if divided government can spare our 2a rights from your beloved tyrant.

downsouth is correct. We as a nation are not a democracy. The Congress has to work within the confines of the US Constitution. If they ignore the Constitution the Courts are supposed to stop the illegal laws. The last resort is Jury nullification.

The Socialist movement is very popular in the U.S. The Leaders of this movement are supported by the powerful media and the very rich such as Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Geo Sorroes.
Power and money has always over taken the rights of citizens outside the chosen political circle. The changes in the moral fiber was changed in the last 4 years. The next 4 years will see more taxes fewer jobs relaxed drug laws more illegals and gun control.

The measure would stiffen penalties for bringing guns near schools..... Yeah that's gonna help! These guys go in there kill a bunch of kids them kill themselves so a law threatening harsher penalties will definetly stop this! Why didn't I think of that?!
