My Feelings on the Second Amendment
The Second Amendment does not GIVE us a Right to Keep and bear Arms, it is a prohibition against "government" from INFRINGING upon that Right, which has existed since the dawn of mankind.
As to the ability of We, the People, to protect ourselves against "government" tyranny, I would strongly suggest you (POTUS) consult history regarding the British under King George III, the Viet Cong, and the "insurgents" in Iraq and Afghanistan, for starters. Add to this that the "government" relies upon members of We, the People, under our Oaths to "...protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic..." to carry out its plans, and the great majority of the standing military will NOT obey any unjust, unconstitutional, illegal orders to disarm or do battle with the law-abiding fellow citizens. PERIOD.
"Government" does not grant RIGHTS; our Creator endowed us with them and "government" cannot rescind, revoke, nor repeal that which it does not have the power to "grant". If you truly believe that the American People, especially we veterans and active duty members of the Armed Forces, are not capable of resist an out of control "government", you are sadly mistaken.

Nicely stated Threetango. The Constitution is not a right-giving document; it is a government-limiting document. Our Founding Fathers were not interested in enumerating EVERY SINGLE God-given right that Americans should have in our fledgeling nation. That would be impossible. Rather, they were interested in making sure that the government understood what its limitations were. Unfortunately, in the nearly 2 1/2 centuries since the document was drafted and ratified by the states, the Constitution has been "massaged" in inappropriate ways, most often in an effort to grant the federal government FAR more power than what our Founding Fathers wanted it to have. Most notably, the Commerce Clause and the Necessary and Proper Clause have been used, most often in tandem, by the federal government and SCOTUS to give the feds almost carte blanche authority to regulate us lowly subjects in most aspects of our daily lives. And it's not getting better. In fact, it's clearly getting worse. And I believe the current administration will do everything in its power to expand its powers, including trying to pad SCOTUS with liberal justices when/if possible. It's a scary time, for sure.
And thank you for your service to our country.

Well, duh! Of course that is what it means. The real meaning of the Constitution has been muddied up by the politicians (on both sides of the aisle) for so many years, a huge percentage of our populace are ignorant of the intent.
