Therefore with this plank, they have nothing to lose here. The average gun forum/NRA member has been written off. They have made the calculation that this plank will speak to their people and maybe influence the few in the middle that will decide this election. This should not be news, it is consistant with their position since Bill Clinton.

With the recent gun violence commited by crazy people, with assualt weapons, a lot of people just do not see the need for you and I to have high-capacity, removable magazine, semi-automatic rifles and there is nothing you can do to change their minds..........
So... What are you saying? That we should lay down and just put up no fight?

Do they not get the fact that their is no loophole and reinstating a ban will increase violence!

Of course not, I too own at least one magazine fed, high capacity, semi-auto firearm.

I was simply explaining, from my point of view, why the Democrats would include the plank as written. I have a little insight about how the Democrats feel as I have been one all my life.

Honestly, if I had read this yesterday at this time, we'd be having a little debate right now

But after last night, Ron Paul throwing in the towel, I have to admit I feel very jaded.

He fought the good fight but threw in the towel just as the tides started to turn. Questioning my decision again. My loyalties are shaken easily apparently.

We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements—like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole—so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.
I should have notied this sooner.

They're even admitting its not even a big problem. But they're going to take them from us anyways....err...at least they think they can.

Maybe it's time to include the GOP's platform entry on the 2nd amendment as a reference point:

The Second Amendment: Our Right to Keep and Bear Arms (Top)
We uphold the right of individuals to keep and bear arms, a right which antedated the Constitution and was solemnly confirmed by the Second Amendment. We acknowledge, support, and defend the law-abiding citizen’s God-given right of self-defense. We call for the protection of such fundamental individual rights recognized in the Supreme Court’s decisions in District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. Chicago affirming that right, and we recognize the individual responsibility to safely use and store firearms. This also includes the right to obtain and store ammunition without registration. We support the fundamental right to self-defense wherever a law-abiding citizen has a legal right to be, and we support federal legislation that would expand the exercise of that right by allowing those with state-issued carry permits to carry firearms in any state that issues such permits to its own residents. Gun ownership is responsible citizenship, enabling Americans to defend their homes and communities. We condemn frivolous lawsuits against gun manufacturers and oppose federal licensing or registration of law-abiding gun owners. We oppose legislation that is intended to restrict our Second Amendment rights by limiting the capacity of clips or magazines or otherwise restoring the ill-considered Clinton gun ban. We condemn the reckless actions associated with the operation known as “Fast and Furious,” conducted by the Department of Justice, which resulted in the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent and others on both sides of the border. We applaud the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in holding the current Administration’s Attorney General in contempt of Congress for his refusal to cooperate with their investigation into that debacle. We oppose the improper collection of firearms sales information in the four southern border states, which was imposed without congressional authority.

They will give us a choice! If we comply, were OK; if not, your a criminal! Thats mighty nice of them isn't it? One single vote for Barry or anyone but Mittens is a vote to give our rights to choose the method of self protection over to the Feds.

Its interesting that the Dems are Pro Choice when it comes to killing kids but no choice when it comes to protecting the kids that survive the birthing process intact? Even though Mitt has had his hands in the Gun Control pot at the state level (Liberal state), I would be very surprised if he were to do it Federally. The "Mass" Support isn't there for it, I cannot imagine any Republicans in Washinton rallying behind it. He would have to decree it and I don't believe he would do that

That, Sir, is bumper sticker material if ever I have read one.

What a choice we have: Either way we'll have a government "of the people, by the rich, for the rich". Just a different set of rich people according to who wins. Our lot is to try to find the result that will do us the least harm, as usual.

Our Country suffers from cronyism, political fixes, the old boy network, graft, greed, dishonesty, rigged bidding, small minds, financial feudalism, taxation without representation, overregulation, corruption, lack of morals and at this point is probably just lacking the Black Plague and the rise of Dracula.

Under Romney I believe it will improve. How much, I have no idea, but Romney will be more accountable to We the People. Under that rat bastard socialist President and V.P. Bozo, it will get infinitely worse. That bastard already rules by fiat. Unfettered by the need for reelection, he will truly unleash a draconian rule. The man is a traiter and a criminal

Mark my words.
