I am not defending the government action just disputing your reasoning. The reason they were successful is the lack of a Constitution and Bill of Rights in the UK.

I am happy to live in the United States and hope to become a citizen soon for many reasons. However I do fear that the liberals are looking to take the US down the same path as the UK in more ways than just gun control. I hope they are not successful and I am doing all I can to energize all the pro gun people I know.

I normally stay silent on controversial matters like these but when people spout crap they know nothing about they need to be called on it.

I DO NOT support the BBC, they need to keep their noses out of the business of the US people, but I also don't support jingoistic attacks against a country that has supported the US in more ways than any other country in history.
Hey davva360,

I'm also a Brit that moved to the US after 34 years, London born and bred.

I agree with you 100%, I like the rights that the US government affords me including gun ownership and even though I'm not a US citizen yet and can't vote, I will do everything I can to support holding onto the 2nd amendment.

Guys, bashing the bbc and foreign anti-gunners is one thing but let's not turn this thread into one big anti british conversation. There are plenty of Brits that support gun ownership and the second amendment including me.

Bulldog the first strict gun control laws in England were implemented in 1922 to protect the Royals. The laws were added to later. That is why the Brits were begging Americans to ship them arms is the late 1930s. Americans shipped their personal hunting rifles to the English. After the War because of their stupid gun laws they dumped our gifts in the ocean.

This better not turn into another argument, that was not the intention of the thread it was to give you a heads up about another attack on the 2A, one that you probably wouldn't have otherwise been aware of.

Here is some of the gear the IRA has got hold of, they've been caught out a few times but even with all the attention from the police they can still get all sorts in, including SAM systems. If people are determined enough, even in the British Isles, they will get weapons.

There are many laws that are created right after a massacre in Europe. Knee jerk reactions, sort of what is happening in the states right now. We have had school shootings over here too. There was one were the kid got into his dad's safe. One thing the Germans are talking about now is hand/finger print safes so only the owner can get to the guns.

One of these days I'm replacing the ignition in my car with one. Use one of the bio metric garage door openers.

May I remind the good folks here that some of us are decendents from folks in the UK. My bloodline hails from Scotland. The enemy is not our cousins from across the pond.

I would also remind everyone that just like here in the USA the media in the UK tends to be very liberal and the BBC is certainly not an exception. They certainly do not reflect the views of British citizens in general.

The majority of people in the UK are more than happy to let the US deal with the violence issue in the US and would prefer the media and politicians focus on the issues the UK faces of which there are plenty.

Exactly. The BBC is just another leftist media outlet and it should surprise nobody that they'd come out with a program critical of American gun laws and gun owners--or for that matter any view that doesn't conform to their socialist idea of how the world should be. I know a few Brits--ex-military--who would love to have the gun freedoms we enjoy.

The BBC doesn't speak for all Brits anymore than CNN speaks for all Americans. And the BBC has no vote here. And aside from Top Gear and Benny Hill reruns it's contributed very little.
