Apparently some law enforcement in Kalifornia operates on the Napoleonic system "You are guilty until proven innocent"

check Calguns.net - Powered by vBulletin they are very helpful on cal gun laws. some law enforcement, mostly in L.A. area, are over zealous in enforcing what they think the law says. most questions concerning cal gun laws can be answered at their forum.

Default I hate to "bad mouth"

California, but I saw this kind of crayziness coming in the late 1980's! It was
a great place to "live in it's time", as you could go surfing in the morning & in
the afternoon you could go skiing in the Big Bear mountains! Big Bear also
offered great mule deer hunting then as I harvested my first one on Delmar
mountain near Holcomb valley in 1980. Pop & I also owned a nice cabin in
Moonridge in the 80,s but in 1989 when the deer season was canceld I knew
it was time for us to flee the area!

Even date stamped mag tubes have been used to rebuild dented mags.

Do yourself a favor and read the actual law. It is fairly easy to read. Then make your own decision. CRPA had great breakdown on it a couple of months ago as well. Maybe it is on their website.

Don't take my word for it, do your own investigation. You will be surprised how easy it is to understand.
So you could buy one legal hi-cap remove base plate, spring, follower and
body then use each of these to "rebuild" the old mag and have 4

You can buy all the parts and pieces you want. No problem. You just can't use all new parts to make a working magazine. That would be defined as "Manufacturing" which is a no-no.

Use those parts to replace the worn out parts of your existing mags and you are GTG.

I shoot with 20 round mags all the time and never a problem with the range I go to. They were bought before the 1994 ban here in Cali. So I am grandfathered in. I keep paperwork to prove so. Also I don't own what is considered an AK or AR style weapon either. I use these in the Mini 14 and the M1A. I think the RO at your range is just erroring on the side of caution. However he shouldn't be such a dick. I see alot of fellows using 20+ round mags in their AK and AR type weapons where I shoot and as long as rounds fired are more than 1 second apart the RO has no problem with that.

So the magazine that you bought in 1993 is legal but the IDENTICAL magazine you bought after 1994 is EVUUUL, and if inserted into a rifle, will automaticaly KILL innocent women and children!

The inmates are running the asylum!

NWredhawk- That's not badmouthing that's speaking the truth. You know it's going downhill when Moonbeam has a chance to get re-elected. I know my Gramps is rolling in his grave ( he was on Jerry Brown's Protective Detail... )

Mr M14, it's not the range master, and since I began shooting there a few years ago, they've treated everything professionally, and as long as you're safe they'll allow you a LOT of leeway...
The catch is the previously mentioned shooting group was coming up and they're known for their extensive collection of beautiful weapons, belt feds and ARs.

Default HMMM, I Applaud the adaptabillity posted here by...

The "subjects of todays California"! But thankfully, I never have to worry
about what mag goes with my weapons & I can carry a concealed one darn
near anywere I want! When you apply for a "cwl" here for the first time you
are informed that it may take over 90 days...but I got mine after about 2
weeks! That was in the late 1990's & makes traveling with guns very easy
as I am responsible for guns carried by passengers as well. Well, since Pop is the
only one (aside from Mom) to be a passenger in my vehicle (on rare times).
Pop & I only remove the chambered round from our hunting rifles for the
trip back to camp! Both of us though keep our sidearms chambered &
holstered when on the road!
