I'm about ready to receive my FFL. I was wondering if someone has their CPL and buys a shotgun or rifle do I need to call NICS? I live in michigan btw

Yes, Long guns still require a background check but can walk out of the store at time of purchase.

Are you sure about that? I thought the CPL served as a background check... but most of the big box stores still did it anyway.

I just bought a rifle in Michigan, and presented my CPL only. I filled out the purchase form at the store, and within 15 minutes I had gun in hand walking out the door, and was off to the shooting range.

I also bought a handgun in Michigan, and presented my CPL only. I filled out the purchase form at the store, and within 15 minutes I had gun in hand walking out the door. I took a copy of the registration to the sheriff's office, and I was off to the shooting range to shoot it along with the rifle.
