If he actually makes it, he doesn't really need to worry about using an M9. Many SF groups tend to go with other sidearms, like USPs or Sigs (at least my uncle's did, and he was a Ranger).

Personally, most of the people I came across that had "issues" with the M9 were idiots - they'd take great care of their M4, but barely touch their M9, and then wondered why they had issues.
