Default I'm in a quandry...

I kept hearing that the NRA was going to back Harry Reid. When I first heard it, I got an immediate answer (January or Feb) that the NRA had never endorsed Harry Reid, etc, etc. Well the rumors rolled some more and then Nevada opened the biggest range ever and they had a picture in the NRA publication of Harry Reid cutting the ribbon. Hmmm. I wrote a second time with no results. I wrote a third time. This last time they said it was too early to endorse someone...ya,da,ya,da. Then they went on to say that their choice of someone to endorse would be on a single issue (guns) and Harry Reid had done this and that. They never mentioned that Harry's opponent is stronger on guns that he is. I'm afraid for this country, because people are voting on single issues. They don't take into account hall the bad things that their chosen one has done. I do love my guns and they will not be taken away. I, too, look to be sure that my candidate it pro gun, but I look beyond that as well to make sure that he is PRO AMERICAN and not pro socialist. Sorry for the rant, but am feeling alone this morning.

Dave

The fact is that the NRA will endorse someone who's currently in office with "proven" 2A credentials even if the challenger's history is stronger. They want the power of incumbency over a new legislator. New lawmakers sometimes don't get anything done, so they're seeking someone with power. They say 2A is the litmus test, no matter what else the person does.

I expect the NRA to either endorse Dingy or to stay neutral, leaning towards endorsement. It won't make any difference to me, I'm voting against him.

Amen, ScottG.

By the way, what ammo do you use in your 9x18?

As disturbing as it is, it is the way it has been done in the past as well. In my way of thinking, endorsing any candidate that belongs to an anti-gun organization is preposterous regardless of that individual's voting record. The anti-gun organization Reid is a member of is the Democrat party, and he may belong others as well. But the Democrat party is the one that can have the greatest impact on weakening the 2nd Amendment, and the stronger they are, the more difficult life will be on gun owners and shooters.

I use Rooskie ammo. I buy Silver Bear hollowpoints. Right now I have a stack of Wolf Military classic for fmj. I have used Brown Bear for practice as well because it's cheap. Stay away from Norinco, I had over 25 % failure with that.

The NRA is political, not principled.

There are other truly pro-2A groups out there. Pick one. Join it. Screw the NRA.

Succinctly stated, bkt, and quite accurate. While I agree, I would also submit there is a role for a political organization in the fight for the 2A as well. Find the pro-2A groups and join them all.

I'm OK with that as long as a group doesn't do crazy stuff in my name. If you like the JPFO, SCOPE and GOA, join 'em all! But if a group starts saying "well...it's unreasonable to allow citizens to own semi-auto rifles because they're not necessary for hunting" or some kind of similar b.s. then you know you need to leave that group; don't stick with them because sometimes they do the right thing. Write to them when they do a wrong thing and tell them to change. If they keep doing wrong things, write back and tell them why you're taking your membership dues elsewhere.

By all means support as many pro-2A groups as you can!!

I agree bkt...as soon as they cease to be PRO-2A, they can expect to lose my support. I'm a Life Member of the NRA, but I have discouraged others from that choice. Annual membership is the way to go, because you have something to withhold if they go off the rails.
