I'm for 100% universal background checks! You know, the one where they check 100% of the people for proper ID to prove they are citizens and non-felons when they go to vote. Now THAT is a universal background check we could live with. Heck, if we had that many other problems would not exist!

Although I personally have bought every one of my guns from licensed dealers and gone through the background checks, I really regard the whole concept to be a violation of the 2nd Amendment. What part of "shall not be infringed" don't they understand? According to the 2nd Amendment, even the most rotten criminal should be able to "keep and bear arms". The criminals never let the law bother them anyway, so what good do the background checks do? The criminals steal the guns they use, or buy them from someone else who has stolen them. And the laws that require the police agencies to destroy the records are ignored, because they microfiche the forms before they are destroyed, and the 4473 forms are kept forever. So background checks are usable for the purpose of identifying gun owners for when confiscation time comes. The feds are not our friends. That is one of the major reasons for the Bill of Rights, to protect us from the government.

I'm 100% for that kind of background check.

I'm 100% against the kind for guns though.

I do think that politicians should have to submit to an abusively thorough background check before they can run for office. It should include their birth records, their school records, identifying the people they hobnob with, their financial records, their business associates, their Argentine and Brazillian girlfriends (or boyfriends), and which hand they use when amusing themselves by abusing themselves.
