Well the state cashed my check on October 6th and finally today November 25th, I received a letter from them stating my FOID card application has been denied based on me being admitted in a mental health facility in the past 5 years. They did however include the paperwork needed for me to appeal the decision and a list of everything they need from me, one being a letter from my ssychiatr, which I should have no problem getting as he said he has no problem supporting me in trying to get the FOID card. Also have to get 2 notarized letters from people that know me to give their opinion, which shouldn't be a problem. So I'm still hopeful of getting it, its going to be a long drawn out process, more then what I was hoping for, but I'm not giving up.

Sorry they didn't give it to you. Hopefully the letters will help them change their minds.

Good luck.

I bet if you follow those instructions to appeal, you will get the FOID card. Good luck. Keep us informed of any progress.

Well despite all the letters including from my physciatrist supporting me, I never did even hear back from the state. Last month was my 5th year of being out of the hospital, and I did reapply. Took about 45 days, however I finally got approved. I've had my guns for over a year now (my dad bought them in his name for me). However I am legal now finally.

Biker! Good to hear from you- and glad that things were finally resolved (Water wears away rock- be persistent!)

Don't be such a stranger- and sorry you have had bone-headed bureaucrats to deal with for over a year.

It's good that you finally got it, but I hate that you had to jump through hoops to get it.

@ beaniemac oh they would have found out.

@ OP: The truth is that 30day wait is probably provided there are no issues with the applicant and the application. given that there were "yeses" on your app, it's probably flagged and WILL take longer.

Just a few thoughts, I am by no means 100% knowledgeable on the subject but, honestly, even if you voluntarily admitted your self for psych eval/issue, whatever they may be, you may want to seek out another way to "relieve stress" as you say it, because there is a good chance you may be denied. Also, you may want to rescind your application and reapply in 1 year (the app says "in the past 5 years" with regard to the hospital stay). doesn't it also ask if in the last 5 years have you been denied for a FOID? Next year when the 5 yrs expires for the "hospital stay" you may have a denial for this application that you will have to disclose to them.

Again, this is just me thinking with me fingers because you can't hear me thinking out loud.
