Because of his erratic behavior... The theater staff has no training to handle a destabilized person. What if they have a weapon on them?? Are other people in danger??... or is this person just a drunk or high @hole who's of a mind that "I can do or say whatever I want.. the rules of civility do not apply to me... the constitution says I can (yes.. they DO use that excuse sometimes).. and I'll just SUE anyone who tries to stop me!!" ...We must face the fact that the World (or even the small pocket you're currently standing on) has become an unpredictable and (sometimes) dangerous place. It is the reason I have decided to carry concealed (as I'm sure it's the reason for most of you here as well).

I've posted this in another thread... but my Daddy had a saying.. "You can always go out in the woods and poke a bear with a stick, but I personally don't think that's such a good idea... Because what happens next is on the head of the poker, not the one being poked."
... and as of late, I see an awful lot of people on daily basis walking around with sticks looking for something to poke.

The guy's got issues, no doubt.

I don't have an opinion on how he should have been dealt with. What troubles me more is how freaking paranoid the public has become of any action, word or picture that refers to or symbolizes a firearm. When people start to panic in a crowded theater because someone points a finger at them and makes a bang-bang noise, it shows you just how effective the anti-gunners and socialist media have been at creating fear.

On the plus side, at least he didn't have a Pop Tart chewed into the shape of a gun.

Seriously though, disorderly conduct? Yes, I'll buy that. But damn, did this really need the police?
Frankly I think it would have been simpler and more effective if some of the staff simply "had a few words" with him out back.

It should have been obvious that he was just some kinda idiot. (His cerebral hemorrhoids were acting up again). But all it took was some hysterical dingbat to yell "Gun! Gun! Gun!", and get the whole crowd hysterical. That s**t could have caused a stampede and gotten somebody trampled. The "perp" was not the only idiot in the theater.

This situation in general points out to the fact that society in general is becoming a tolerant-of-everything bunch of pussies. Stick yer head in the sand, "THEY" will take care of it.

I agree. Someone should have knocked him on his a#$ and when the cops arrived they should have told them "It was dark officer, I thought he had a gun".

Seems there were a lot of "good sheeple" at the show !

As noted elsewhere, in a rational, self-sufficient society, this (obviously disturbed) individual would have been ejected - by the management and/or several "concerned males" - and left for the police to deal with. But this story line exemplifies how we've been largely castrated, (when it comes to controlling our living spaces) by the dictates of self-appointed mavens of "PK" behaviors the rest of us must adhere to. Of course these same "mavens" never encounter this sort of situation in their world because they subborn our tax dollars to ensure the purity of their life style. >MW

Millwright - I think you'd enjoy "Nation of Cowards" by Jeff Snyder. I've read it 2-3 times. He gets at the ethics of what you are talking about.

I couldn't view it because of all the friggen pop ups on the site. From what everyone is saying, I probably would tackle the guy, hold him however possible, and wait for the cops to come. If he is crazy enough to do it with an imaginary gun, what's to stop him from pulling out a real one? I don't need another regret to add to my life.
