I NEED a good lawyer.
I was recently stopped, disarmed, questioned, and searched by police for the sole reason that I was carrying a rifle on my back. I broke no laws and was driven home by the police.
This is a clear violation of what is considered justified Terry search. Does anyone know any aggressive civil liberties attorneys that would want to take up a case like this?
I live in Vermont and have called multiple law offices with no luck, people don't even know where to point me.

Contact the NRA. They have rosters of pro-gun attorneys.

Here's the whole story from another thread started by the OP.
In Illinois any transportation of firearms requires said firearm to be in a case of some sort. Even to and from a hunt. What are the laws where you are?

My question is "why are you walking around with a rifle on your back?". The NRA would be you best chance of finding a lawyer.

well I went shooting and i thought I was gonna get a ride home with the person who drove me and my friend there, but apparently they had planned otherwise. I was just walking home.
In Vermont we allow open or concealed carry without paperwork of rifles and pistols. I'm 22 with a clean criminal record.

What type of rifle was it out of curiosity?

No, I wasn't charged because I wasn't committing a crime. But now I'm gonna be put into the news paper and they marked me as some sort of "gun owner" in their police database, or possibly a threat to police, I'm not sure. The officer on the other hand preformed a Terry Search on me...For doing nothing but following the law.
