Perhaps I misread.

The first post seemed to me to be a statement that he was not going to allow himself to be dragged down by the doom and gloom, and was going to be happy.

By the second post, we're expatriating?

I've seen the rest of the planet, and not as a tourist. Trust me when I say that if Freedom dies here, there really isn't anywhere else to go.

To those that wish to jump ship, feel free, you were dead weight anyhow.

This November and in two more years, we'll have the chance to change things and let the commiecrats know how we feel. Stick around !!

I can't even vote yet since I am not a citizen. Five year mark is coming up next February, and I am going to naturalize. So you guys better stick up for me and do your best to keep this country FREE! Since I am Swedish, I have seen the "other side." Some of the grass may SEEM greener, but once you step on it, you realize it's just fake patches put on there to cover up all the dog dodo.

One of my good friends and co-workers is/was a Swede. He tells anyone who will listen what living under socialism feels like. He is a U.S. Citizen now and is passionate about the USA.

Not all Americans know how good we have it. And we need to fight to keep it that way.

TGL,
You had to know this post would strike a nerve with many people reading who read it. What motivated you to do this, I'm curious? Have you traveled to other shores and if so where?
Planning to retire in a foreign country has many drawbacks such as not seeing your family and friends are the first that come to mind. What about health care? What about exchange rates?
What about the fact that what you've said is hurtful to every veteran in this country who went to war on your behalf and fought for your freedom?
I try hard not to judge people because I find most people are convinced that their point of view is valid, based on their knowledge. People will do better when they find better, and they don't know what they don't know. So I'll put your statement into this category and hope that as you mature you'll see the light.
I've traveled through South America, Africa, Europe & the Urasian areas, and I have never found a place that could even come close to offering me a life style better than what I enjoy here in the good old USA.

I don't see the problem, go ahead and leave.

One caveat though:

Don't bother coming back when those of us that stayed and fought finally defeat the socialist thugs trying to destroy this country.

I've lived in a number of foreign countries and the worst day in America is still light years better than the best day elsewhere...

I have wondered about Costa Rican firearms laws (& those of a few other countries) myself, for potential retirement planning. I like the people here and the land, but i am no longer attached to the political organization running/ruining the land and the people's presents and futures. I may live out my life here & i may move on to some other place to live, but i will always respect those who tried to make an ideal into a reality called the United States of America (and be disgusted by those ruining it).

Bashing on somebody for considering retiring elsewhere sounds like sour grapes to me; if someone wants to leave, they should feel free to. This is not a compulsory society as far as membership. There have been a few immigrants and foreign citizens on this forum; i don't remember anyone giving the immigrants a hard time for "jumping ship" or abandoning their homeland. I seem to recall a few quasi-invitations being extended to some foreign members to abandon their homelands in favor of this land. Heck, i worked with a lady who lived into her midlife in another country before immigrating to the U.S.; i always admired the pioneering spirit that led her from a place that was no good for her or her family to a place that suited their needs better.

As far as being disrespectful to the Veterans, i think that is more the hobby of those in DC & elsewhere who have and continue to make a mockery of the "land of the free".

We only fail when we stop trying. Sure all this gloom and doom can weigh heavy on us but the alternatives that come with apathy or turning tail and running is much worse. The grass is not greener. It in some cases is not even grass bot a shiny alluring paint job that can wear off much sooner than one might like it to.

I heard on a local radio show here in Ky. that the voters taken off the books the last year is nowhere near being replaced by new voters. I am sure that this is not just a Ky trend and is happening all over the U.S. I imagine that the gloom and doom has gotten to many of these people all thinking that one vote means nothing. And one vote might not. But you tally up all those abstaining for whatever reason and you have much more than one vote.

You want to see thew light at the end of the tunnel? You can't get there only looking at the dark or from some other shoreline. Many like myself get out there and try to get people to not giving up. Talk to everyone you know to get to the polls and use their right in hopes of keeping bot only that right but others. Freedom was not paid for by our forefathers. They just made the down payment. And it was a pretty hefty one. Many of our founding fathers were willing to not only give up their fortunes but their lives. And many more after them willingly gave their lives to keep us free. IN WWII some men actually killed themselves because they could not serve. They were so willing to go out and defend this country that when told they could not went believing they were not good enough to carry a rifle and possibly get killed. I can not even get close to understanding the level of shame these people felt. But it goes on to show just how much people were ready, willing to serve this country. How many you think now would do something so bold? My father left his graduation ceremony to enlist. Was in Europe during WWII and went on to serve in Korea. As a small child I would ask him why he was sad when he stood before ball games (even on TV) for the National Anthem. In a rough trembling voice he told me he was not sad. He just got emotional when he heard it. It's people like my Father that get me all wound up about things involving this country. If you need your patriotic batteries charged go find a veteran. They get it.

With all the troubles we have here there is no better place to be buy here. Like I said what we have was not given to us. It been fought for tooth and nail. and that's going to be the way it is as long as there are people out there willing to try to gain the power to take it from us. WE need to try to get people to use their vote. True one vote wont tip the scale. But if all the one vote don't count people did use their one vote it becomes much more powerful. If we could do that maybe the solver lining would be a little easier to see.

I made a promise to the old vet that helped give me life. To keep that I will never give up trying to do what I can to help make this country great. Because you don't fail until you stop trying.

It's better to light a candle rather than curse the darkness.

With the direction this Country has been hijacked to, it's easy to become discouraged. The hard thing is to do the right thing and to keep fighting.

My wife is chronically/terminally ill, our finances are in shreds and our plans have evaporated. There are days when I just want to quit. There are days when I feel I don't have the strength to carry on. There are days when I feel that I just can't go on.

But if I don't, who will? Who will safeguard my wife? Who will stand up to the rot that erodes this Country from the roots up? Who will guide us to better solutions and answers?

The reason we are in this fix is because people abdicated their responsibilities and let others lead. We must stand firm, stand together and be active and loud and fully engaged.

We won't ever fail unless we quit.
