I'm not too fond of Dick's myself but I agree with the posts above. I don't see anything wrong with what they did. One of the local grocery stores in Key West asks for your date of birth to buy beer or wine. I have to enter mine every time and I'm 55 years old. Not like I look under age.

Slippery slope? Maybe, but geez. It is not like they asked for fingerprints, DNA or the serial number of the weapon. Illegal to sell to someone underage. Many places that sell alcohol or tobacco products has a feature that prevents the transaction from being completed unless an appropriate DOB is entered into the system. You may not even realize it is there as they probably have a featue that allows the clerk to enter a random DOB that makes you old enough.

Companies are scared to death of liability. If they sell ammo, guns, alcohol, cigarettes to someone underage, they may get sued. Tort reform is what we need.

America is no longer a republic, it has become a democracy. Policy is now entrenched and will forever remain and in control of everyone's' life.

In NJ you can't buy ammo without a firearms purchasers ID card. And they won't issue THAT to even a resident alien (person with a green card). So that's that over here. But I hate DSG for other reasons.

Age-is spelled out in the Federal law that dealers operate under.

Citizenship? There is no requirement that you be an American citizen to purchase ammo OR firearms. You may purchase either if you are a resident alien (my lady is one of those) or a NON-Resident alien (such as one with a hunting license).

My curiosity piqued. I checked with the local DSG, and they confirmed that this was a recent change in requirements sent down from their corporate HQ the citizenship part)

I also spoke with my local ATF folks, who confirmed that there IS no change in the ATF regulations on purchase of ammo. You must be a person that can legally own a firearm to purchase ammo. Among other things, that means you are here in the US legally. It does NOT mean that you must be a US citizen.

My take? Dick got burned making an improper sale, and is making up their own rules to try to not get smacked by the ATF. It may also get them a lawsuit if a legal alien is refused service on the basis of National Origin (a no-no last time I looked)

You don't have to be an American citizen to purchase a firearm...but as a NC resident, I can't purchase a firearm in any other state besides NC???

What prey tell is the logic behind THAT???

I dont see the big deal in being asked those two questions, im confused :-\

I doesnt seem like the transaction was hindered in any way.

Hell walmart asks for my DOB when i buy spray paint, other than the extra 2 seconds that it takes to tell them, i dont really care

Not sure either mrwray. But since my scenario is actual for where I live I have to assume that municipal/county/state regulations are more stringently enforced by shops like dsg et al.

Again in NJ you need a firearms purchasers ID card to purchase ammo and they will not issue a fpid to a non resident alien.

That's how we roll here.

I do have a major problem with the FPID card as it is a blatant infringement upon all Americans right to own firearms. However at least they did one thing right by not allowing illegals.

That is simple, your state law is more restrictive than Federal law. Sounds like you need to change your state government or your location.
