What do you mean, you don't see "federal" permits?

FBI,ATF,NSA,and Secret Service have them.

New York has no reciprocity with any other state. Getting caught with a handgun in your possession in New York without a permit will land you in far more trouble than you want. Either don't bring the gun or stay out of New York. I recommend the latter.

Although I can't determine whether carrying in my truck OTR would be legal or not (sounds like not) the state that seems to me to be the one to get would be North Carolina... they have more reciprocity than anyone it looks like.
