Default How Can A FL Resident Buy A Handgun From a TX Gun Show?

Hi everyone I am a Florida resident and drove to Texas for six months for work. I am not in the military.

My question is how can I buy a handgun from a gun show. I have been told unless I am a Texas resident I can not buy a handgun.

Is there any legal loophole I can use to purchase a new gun?

Thanks in advance.
Jay

First, welcome Jay. Usually the new members stop by the Introductions section so the members can get to know them a bit.

Second, NO LOOPHOLE! You can have the handgun shipped to a FFL of your choice in your home state and pick it up there. This is Federal Law, and circumventing the law is not endorsed by law abiding citizens.

Third, enjoy the forum.

Thanks SkullCrusher for the info. I guess because I would be in TX for six months I did not want to wait that long to get the gun.

I guess the gun laws are strict for a reason.

Stick around, and you will learn that the gun laws have no reason or rhyme to them. Take a weekend, drive back home, buy a gun and then take it back with you. Legally, of course.

You can declare residency in Texas, even for the six month period. Get a Txas Driver's License and buy the handgun. When you move back to Florida, simply re-declare Florida as you residence and get the Florida DL back.

It is an extra hoop to jump through, but (to the best of my knowledge) a legal one. You will have to surrender your FL DL to Texas and, in turn, your TX DL to FL in six months.

I am not an attorney so make sure you check to confirm this is legal.

Thanks, I was told with a TX drivers license I could buy with no problem. Just not sure if its worth the trouble and money.

Thanks again.
