All I can figure, since they were in a canyon, they must have gotten wet at some point in time.

Other than the description of AK47, do we know if they were actually select fire AK's or Semi AK variants?

I assume the article said AK 47 but the media and most cops reach that conclusion if you show them an SKS in a synthetic stock.

You sir, have an evil mind - I admire that...

The really funny part w be the poor ATF soul who had to collect & preserve the evidence and how much $$$ w be spent in testing before they figured out it was a bad joke vs bio terrorism.

Not found in Phoenix. Madera Canyon is in the Santa Rita mountains a few miles south of Tucson. (which is about 100 miles S. of Phoenix)

Well believe it or not, even Aridzona gets wet... we're at a 60% chance of rain most of tomorrow including in Phoenix

An AK-47 IS fully automatic. They have to be modified to fire semi-automatic. They were probably stashed by smugglers. If the smugglers got caught or otherwise had their careers ended, they could not come back for them. If they had not been "badly rusted", I say set a charge of about a pound of C-4 and a mercury switch and leave them. Self correcting problem.

Probably got wet while the "owner" was swimming the river. Since it's Arizona, that would be the San Luis Rio Colorado between Mexicali and Yuma.
