Default Gun Show Trends

The wife was at Sportsman's Warehouse the other day. I asked her to pick up some .22LR CCI Blazer 525 rds 1 or 2 bricks. No Blazer, just Remington on the .22LR location. She was told by gun counter that ammo is selling fast; as well as weapons, .22LR, 45 ACP, 9mm, 12 gauge to name a few.

Granted, the last time I purchased Blazer was at Big 5 and that was 4 bricks!

I was at the range from 0900 to 1445 today, continously full at all the outdoor shooting positions and a line in waiting. Never really counted the amount of positions, estimated at 50.

Found this article on another forum that I read only from time-to-time. I wish I could get Mosin for $150, mostly here it is $250 and up.

I've seen stuff on a couple of sites advertising ammo stating a huge price increase. I haven't seen it or received anything from anyone that it is happening. Not sure where the salesman was coming from. Gun sales are still strong accoring to NSSF statistics, but there's no specific evidence of a run on firearms like happened after the 2008 election, at least not from my perspective.

Buyers are in fact, very budget conscious now. I know I have to be. This is a real good time for lower priced firearm manufacturers. The good news for gun buyers is that there are a bunch of lower priced guns on the market now that are of quality builds. The manufacturers realize this also as they are increasingly offering to dealers regardless of whether small or large, stocking or not, to deal factory direct and with no minimum sales to drive the market towards them more. Good for everyone, not so good for the wholesale distributors, but they make their money on the more mainstream brands.

As to the Nagants, I don't know where you are seeing them for such an inflated price. I sell them for near where you want to buy one for. The only one that is going for over $200 is the 91/30 sniper version. The others are under $200. The "collectable grade" models will sell for closer to what you have been quoted, but the shooters are going for less. Drop me a PM if you want contact info and I would be glad to help you.

If you have been looking at a show for them, that is likely the reason. There's no real firearm bargains at gun shows these days. I went to one locally about a week ago for something to do and mostly shook my head. Being a dealer gives me a price perspective that others don't have the luxury of having. I always believed that these shows were the place to reduce prices not unlike a boat or RV show. What is seen there are the same prices they are sold for in the stores, if not more. Too many just aren't realizing that. I fault my other dealers for doing this. I know some might say that it's the market and free enterprise and all that which is true, but I'm allowed my beliefs.

IMO... there seems to be an up tick in the economy, plus more people are enjoying the shooting sports in general when that happens. THAT coupled with the fear (real and/or imagined) of a second Obama term. I personally have little concern with that (I'm vigilant... just not paranoid about gun rights mind you). Gun owners are a HUGE voting block and this administration treads lightly with us. A visit to any gun show will prove to you how many there are and how enthusiastic (I.E. "energized") the gun owning public can be. Most gun owners (myself included), whether they will openly state it or not, will NEVER surrender their firearms no matter WHAT laws are passed... Feds and UN be damned!! As long as ONE thug is out there packing... SO WILL I!!

As for the Mosin (I assume you're looking for a 91/30 model).... Check these guys out; http://sovereignguns.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19_22&produ cts_id=340 This is my local Ma & Pa gun shop and they sold me mine at a very reasonable price. Mind you, it kicks like a mule!!

I think people are buying and shooting more. I haven't seen empty store shelves but where I go to buy (several different Wal-Marts) they don't always have every caliber in every manufacturer. There are holes in the shelves, especially on the lower price ammo. Federal must be doing one hell of a business.

As to the mosins, my local gun dealer has a whole row to choose from for $115. And Dunhams still puts them on sale about 1 Sun-Mon per month for $89.95.

I'm telling you man... That (former) Eastern Block stuff is plentiful now!! Mine is a 1943 model fresh out of the crate....Keep in mind though, the USSR was cranking out 17 MILLION of these during the war years (thus the easy availablity and price) and while the mechanics are sound, the quality control on things like the finish and eveness of the blueing may not be of the highest standard. I re-finished my stock (nothing fancy, light sanding and hand rubbed linsead oil) and plan on getting a scope mount to get some better accuracy over 200 yards. The ammo (7.62x54r) is easy enough to find and will take down some sizable game. Although I would rather have an M1 or a Mauser... this was still too good of a bargain (and a piece of history) for me to pass up.

It's on my list. I have a few other things that are above it but, I might get one. I have a friend that got one at a classic car swap meet for 150. I'll have to shoot his a few times.
