My State, Texas is quite sensible concerning gun ownership and has the CHL (concealed handgun permit) for lawful citizens of age, with instruction and firing on the range to obtain. We have not as yet gotten open carry but that is being considered in the Legislature hopefully.

Carrying a rifle or shotgun is allowed but exceptions are around schools, sporting events, and places where alcohol is consumed, also not in churches. There is a prohibited list for CHL holders as to the aforementioned. We may open carry when upon our own property and/or with permission of the property owner.

I used to see the then boy governor at a place called the Virgin Sturgeon on the Sacramento river from time to time in the mid 1970's when he was governor the first time here in California. He drove an old POS Plymoth Fury and was dating Linda Ronstadt. Guy was weird then, except for the Linda Ronstadt thing, and hasn't changed much since then.

Not to mention Detroit. They have a moratorium in the city that says "Enter at your own risk". They laid off 1000 police officers in the city, so there is very little LE to head up the crime.
