Flat Tire- it stands for Firearms Owners I D card. Illinois requires that the residents of Illinois have one to buy, own, or possess a gun or ammo. Nothing to do with a Federal Firearms License.

See what you miss living in a civilized state?

Firearm Owner's IDentification.

You have to pass a background check.

Yes, I believe I can make a private sale but I would go through an FFL. Though my Dad has two firearms he wants to give me and I'm just going to take them to my house. *shrugs*

If you pick up the newspaper can you buy a firearm person to person without an FFL being involved ?

I pulled this from the state of Illinois website. Give them a call. Mine took 12 weeks a few years ago. My son applied the same day and his took 2 weeks. I had to call. Got it the very next week.

Questions may be directed to the ISP FOID Section by phone at 217-782-7980 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. CST Monday through Friday.

Due to the large volume of firearm-related questions, please allow 30 days from the date your check cleared the bank before inquiring about the status of your FOID application.

Had to wait 6 weeks in MI for my purchase permits when I moved up here >.<

Such an inconvinence. At that rate I can never cash in on a deal unless by pure stinking luck.

In NJ you have to have a FPID (thats a firearms purchasers ID card) in order to purchase a long gun or ammo and you have to apply for a pistol purchase permit as well if you want to buy a handgun. That permit is good for 90days and you can renew it for an additional 90 days but only once.

My FPID took about 8 weeks to receive it originally. When I move it took almost 3 months to get the new one. And it took me almost 10 weeks to get my last pistol purchase permit.

BUT it's much cooler by the shore. 😳

Yeah, it sucks that you can't just go to a police station to get a backround check so you could get a card issued there, like the DMV, just hopefully not as many lines lol, or wait time

(Opening box of salt to rub in wounds)

Just stopped by my LGS. Decent little well used S&W .32 Hand Ejector revolver, in .32 S&W Long had just come in on a trade. We did a bit of arm wrestling, agreed on $140, wrote them a check- they have my 03 FFL on file, took receipt, shook hands, said thank you, left w/ gun.

Elapsed time on transaction, INCLUDING examining gun and haggling over price- 5 minutes. Coffee did not even get cold.

Things are simpler here in VA. No permits to purchase or own. (and real estate prices and taxes are reasonable, weather good, and the women are good looking) (Oh- deer season- bag limit is 2 per day, 6 per season- and season is about 2 months long this side of the Blue Ridge Mountains)
