Reading thru the text of the old 1993 Assault Weapon Ban. This may be a good way to evaluate the new one.

There is a rimfire exemption from the high capacity (10 round) ammunition feeding device as follows:

"an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition."

What are they referring to? Do they mean for example the tube running under the barrel on something like a lever action Winchester 9422? Or do they mean a drum like device. I would assume the former, I would refer to the magazine on a Winchester lever as "an attached tubular device" but had not heard this term before and was not aware of many that held more than ten rounds. (I may have to go down and load my Winchester, in thirty years, I never counted, just filled it up!)

Any thoughts?

Like on a lever action, although my friend has a tube fed .22 bolt action... looks weird.

Like the Marlin Model 60 - I haven't seen this exception in any of the text that has been made available from the current bill. It hasn't all been made public yet though so we'll just have to wait. Even Washington DC's strict gun laws exempt the 22 fixed tubular magazines.
