As a kid myself (14), I think that this is terrible. I don't want to be a pawn of the anti gunners. It is already horrible in my school. In tech class, we were watching a show that eventually showed the hosts shooting at an indoor range. One of the girls sitting next to me said "Why are they shooting guns? Only bad people shoot guns." I told her that owning a gun doesn't make someone bad. girl: "But guns kill so many people." me: Guns don't kill people. People kill people. girl: "I guess that makes sense.".

I don't understand how they could brainwash kids any more than they already have.

Don't worry, you will never be a pawn to them. This post, and what you told that girl is proof enough. You already know the truth, so now you can call out the lies.

The 3 legged stool had a leg removed during the 1960s. The tax payers had their leg stolen and the Teachers Union will not allow it to be replaced.
Parents and tax payers have very little influence when dealing with the massive bureaucratic school systems.

In my district the parents have more say than the teachers.....One parent phone call and they get exactly what they want....Our admin wants parents happy, not us.

ZG, I really appreciate and admire you. vI wish we has a million more teachers like tyou.

But if you're not being forced to teach the NEA anti-American neo-Marxist line, do you teach in the USA????

I hope so, but do any US schools exist where the NEA "Hate America" propaganda can actually be questioned?

15 of the top 17 highschool history textbooks only identify Lee Harvey Oswald as a former Marine. The other two also mention that he was a communist. That's the "world history" messaging our teachers communicate.

Today? "In 1492 a genocidal white Italian christian slave-trader w/male genitals named Columbus sailed the ocean blue."

Truth be told, I don't love my district because of the politics that go on (If you're male and can coach, you'll get a job at the high school) or (administrators get raises, iPads, gas allowances, etc. while teachers get less and class sizes increase) but truth be told we have excellent teachers who do what is in the best interest of the kids. I never appreciated the staff that I work with more than I do after reading these crazy comments. Examples: our English teacher has persuasive speeches and has speeches in which kids get to debate each year. The kids get to pick any topic that they want and receive a good grade regardless of the topic if they have facts to support their topic. Our social studies teacher just got done having a debate about the 2nd Amendment in which kids got really excited about whether they were for or against. He teaches the "real" history of the US in terms of what really happened, who our first President really was etc. When I teach I have standards that I have to hit for math, but I make sure to teach them things that they will really use in terms of not being mislead by corporate statistics and making sure that they are informed consumers. I teach them about not using credit cards because they don't need everything right now. I make sure that they understand that they need to question everything so that they think for themselves. There are actually many schools out there in which the teachers benefit the kids even though the teachers get a lot of flack from admin who wants things done a certain way and we disregard the types of negative comments that I read on here because we know what we really do each day and all of the work that goes in. Many people are misinformed and I could talk until I'm blue in the face and it won't change their opinions. Teachers hate standardized tests and other pointless ways of measuring student success, but we have no say. Teachers get the blame all the time because a few places like Chicago are always striking and making other teachers look greedy. People say we have no accountability.....yeah ok. If my kids don't improve on those standardized tests each year and a certain percent of them pass, I'm canned after two years. There is no tenure or nothing to save me. So when I have students that show up to school once or twice a week, I'm still accountable for them learning......There are so many examples of things I could point put but they don't matter because people have their narrow-minded opinions yet get furiously mad when people attack gun owners. People need to separate the NEA and the DOE from teachers because they are not representative of what teachers are, just like crazy people that go out and kill people are not representative of most gun owners. Also notice that when I comment, I only point out facts. I don't insult people. Most of the people on here are simply throwing insults around without any factual information to back it up. People that speak only with emotions or hate don't hold any weight with me. I don't see them as being rational. There's good and bad teachers just as there are good and bad gun owners, but it's only alright to get angry if gun owners are being attacked. I will never understand that mentality, but it's not for me to understand. I do what I do and they do what they do and regardless of what people say I bust my butt to help all of my students to learn. It's what I do and what I'm good at. Good teachers don't use text books.....

My hubby even takes an active roll with my kids (students). He comes to their plays, basketball games, wrestling meets etc. I go to those things because there are kids that have nobody to cheer them on and it means a lot to them when we show up. Teachers do more than teach.

What does it mean that they teach who George Washington "really was"? That scares me 'cause I know what it usually means.

I verbally attacked a docent at Monticello who, on a tour, explained in every other sentence how bad Jefferson and his ilk as well as slavery was. I finally said "OK, you convinced us -- we should abolish slavery. Now, will you be getting to any other history here?" The rest of audience applauded. At the end of the day I asked my girlfriend, who is English, what she felt the main theme of the Monticello estate museum was and she said "what a bad man he truly was." She was right.

And before some Leftist charges me with the last refuge of scoundrels -- racism -- I had a similar run in with a docent at the Confederate Whitehouse who kept calling slaves "servants." I gave her two chances but on the third even my honey's elbowing didn't stop me from challenging her in front of the tour group.

Of course he teaches who George Washington really was and his role in the Revolutionary War. He just doesn't say he was some loser that was forced to be President. There are good and informed teachers out there that love our country and I am lucky enough to work with them. There are many teachers who teach facts and let students form opinions for themselves. You don't hear about those teachers because good teachers don't sell newspapers or make for the dramatic stories that keep people glued to TV's, just like responsible gun owners don't make headlines.

I don't teach "Corporate" statistics?? That means what? The NEA has a history of anti American Capitalism. How do you prepare young minds to engage in our economy?
This is indicative of our failing education system. Teachers are products of socialist diploma mills.
