Just curious why dont you encase yourself in cement so no one can see or hear you and Nothing you do will ever be seen as offending another?

If the cops get called on you they have to make contact if you are located. That is, in fact, their job.
The cops were not called on this guy. That was not the issue. The issue was he found his little trip to the department store with his perfectly legal AR-15 made it on the internet. Big whoop. Except that now, his actions can have the unintended consequence of shaping the conversation in Washington DC that is under way right friggin now!!!!.
There is no way that having this sort of activity added to an already volatile and passionate discussion in the Halls of Congress is going to have a net positive effect on the eventual outcome. No way. I defy you all to come up with a scenario where this turns things in our favor.

.
And he will be repremanded and their agency sued by a good 2A attorney and the law abiding "perp" will win a lot of money. It has happened to overreaching cops more than once in WI and our attorney general has warned law enforcement agencies that this behavior won't be tolerated.

Local law enforcement agencies don't have the power to ban anything

If this became center on the news it would be easy to get public support to ban open carry.

It has had state wide attention here, the cops were sued the attorney general informed the chiefs of police in the libtard areas that they did not have the right to harass law abiding citizens legally open carrying. Open carry was not banned even with the passage of cc. Luckily it is not so easy in this country to get public support to ban anything or we would all be $hit out of luck, open, concealed, ownership of anything would have been illegal long ago if people were that easily fooled.
