If my store had been robbed numerous times I would have had more than one employee in the store. When a lone clerk is distracted lots of people will take advantage of the situation and shoplift. Two employees in the store at all times will pay for it's self in theft prevention, not to mention added security in event of an active shooter.
When I worked there (this was 16 years ago), there were always from 2 to 6 employees in the store, based upon volume of business. I doubt if that has changed.
Apparently the turkey who shot the clerk was either on drugs or some kind of nut who likely didn't think the guns they were carrying were loaded. They carry their guns in plain sight.
Also, when the Indianapolis media says the store has been targeted many times, that can mean twice or 3 times in 40 years. They exaggerrate anything they can use to make THEIR targets look bad.
The local news outlets go by a principle well described by Mas Ayoob, "they never let the truth get in the way when they have a point to make".
