Default Difference between Ohio and Michigan gun laws
My wife and I currently live in Ohio, and are moving to Michigan soon. I've looked up the difference in gun laws, and I saw that in Michigan you have to get a license to buy a handgun (unless you have a concealed carry permit) and afterwards you have to register them with the city police/county sheriff. A couple of acquaintances that live in Michigan though said it's considerably more difficult to buy a gun in Michigan than in Ohio and basically advised me to stock up as much as I can before I move.

Anyone else have experience with the gun laws in Michigan being a problem?

It's not that tough... you go to the local PD and fill out an application and three days later get a certificate that's valid for 10 days to purchase a pistol. With a CCW (actually called a CPL), you just go buy the pistol.
