We were brutalized today. The whole run up really shows how the people no longer control what happens in the houses of power. To use victims of sandy hook as a stump then deliver this as their legislation really is a disservice.

Here is a BRIEF overview of the changes. Clearly there are so many more.

What is now in effect as of the signing this afternoon:

The sale of all guns is now subject to a background check

List of banned military-style assault weapons has been expanded (mine's on there! Score one for me!)

High capacity magazines which hold more than ten bullets are banned (I have 6)

On July 1:

Permit needed to buy ammunition (will be $35 for permit, who knows the requirements will be.)
Permit needed to buy any type of long gun (who knows cost/requirements)
On Oct. 1:

All criminal penalties for criminal possession of firearms double
Mandatory reporting of voluntary mental health commitments begins
On Jan 1, 2014

Gun offender registry launches
Anyone who owns a banned assault weapon or high capacity magazine will have to register with state to keep them.

So apparently the existing laws that specifically forbid the registering of guns and gun owners for compilation in a database does not apply to CT???

If your 'lawmakers' don't obey the law, I can't see why you should have to...

I am waiting to here this end of it. And maybe someone will have to be arrested to challenge the laws. I would think the NRA would want to pay the legal fees to see what the supreme court thinks. We are crossing a threshold where fed laws and state laws are so different, it will be looked at as the law of the land and the law of the moment. But I do see this as a bit confusing.

The people of Connecticut have voted for and support these law makers. This is a very liberal "Blue" state do not expect the states leaders to fear gun owners.
The state will move swiftly to make arrest for any violations of their decree. Anyone planing to remain in Connecticut can choose to ignore this law. The problem is any conviction of the states firearms laws becomes a criminal record. If you choose to remove your resident to a gun friendly state these violations will continue to apply. Do you want a felony record?
