Colorado Universities ok certain dorms for ccw students

Comment from page. "Can't you see all the whiney liberals running into the ccw dorm when trouble comes to the campus". paraphrased.

Sorry for the misspelled title. If a mod would fix it, would be great. Thanx

Isnt that awesome? I love it! I do hope it catches on elswhere. Effectively they are saying come and learn in peace, if not, you'd better go to Berkley! I work in a somewhat famous small Liberal Arts University located in a very rural district surrounded by Hunting, Trapping and other non liberal American traditionalists. Students, Faculty and Administrators from all over the world come here and are scared to death of Cows, Hayseeds and guns.

Short story- A year ago, I was doing some AV work for our New President and his Wife at their House on top of the hill. Its surrounded by woods and fields and borders non University owned property (Owner doesnt like our university and wont sell it to them). It seems that one of the owners Nephews and a friend were hunting Rabbits next door and she saw them walking through a pasture next to their house carrying guns and she freaked out. She immediately called the police and they came running. After a short Q&A with the kids, it was determined that they were licensed, had permission from the owner to hunt there and broke no laws. The cops sent them on there way and wished them luck!

Mrs Pres was embarrassed and apologetic, she realized she overreacted and attempted to calm the situation after. Too late, if she thinks the owner of that property disliked our school before; it was amplified X10 on that day and Ive heard rumors he even hired a lawyer to entrust the deed in a way as to make sure our school can never buy that land ever.

Folks that havent been exposed to safe and proper handling and use of firearms in their lives often react like this. The only way to change that is via exposure and education. I grew up in a school that had an average graduating class of <30 students every year. It was normal to see PU Trucks owned by teachers and students with shotguns and rifles in the back windows and even show and tell with them during lunch! Every young Man and Most young ladies carried a Jackknife (So we could play Mumbley Peg during Lunch!) yet nobody EVER got hurt by anything but a flying fist here and there.

Education, Exposure and Re-Normalization of Weapons as tools for good is the only answer!

Excellent post Webly! Very well said and I agree completely.

I carried a knife, a small, two blade, folding knife from Buck from about the time I was in the 6th or 7th grade when I received it and was learning to carve and whittle. There was never a problem, there was never a concern, or a lockdown of the class with a SWAT team outside because I was cleaning my nails while watching a film in class.

Too many people, with too little exposure, to the safe and responsible handling of guns and knives these days.

What would our great-grandfathers think? :o
