that is out of my state of residence?
I live in Maryland but go to school in PA and was wondering instead of working at walmart or something of that nature if I could get a job at a gun shop? are there rules / laws against this?

There shouldn't be. If Maryland resident, reciprocal for Pennsylvania is accepted. Inregards to taxes. Not very sure about anything else. Do you know if the gun-shop will employ you?
You can work at a gun shop even if you live out of that state.You will as an employee be using the gun shops FFL number.You wont be able to purchase a handgun for yourself because you are not a resident of the state you work in unless you have it transferred to another FFL holder in your state..Handguns can only be purchased in the state you reside.
