The last time we went thru a panic buy, Pruitts Gun Shop (Houston, Texas) gave a box of ammo with every gun purchase to ensure you at least had the rounds to fire your new firearm!

Personally I believe it to be an attempt to prevent hoarding. One happy customer with 100 boxes of ammo and 25 pissed off customers staring at empty shelves is bad business.

Actually I think it makes perfect sense for them to limit it to 10 boxes! Otherwise even dealers would be coming to the store and cleaning the shelves off the minute a shipment came in. This due to they can not get enough ammunition at the present time to sell to their customers and will get it anyway they can. Then when we show up in an attempt to buy some it would be long gone an purchased by one single source. It to me makes sense and at least gives us a chance to find some ammunition for our weapons? And that is hard enough today! I went to four gun shops in the past two weeks and two Walmarts "ZERO 5.56 or 308 on the shelves"!

Even before the mass murder, the closest Walmart to me, was very thin on popular ammo. I had been told several weeks ago that they did not expect new supplies before Feb. Now that doesn't mean that the clerk had a clue of the store purchasing decisions, but the shelves are now empty except for the less common hunting rounds and shotgun shells. .40 cal seemed to still be on the shelves, but not much other pistol ammo. .22 lr is gone but there is still plenty of shorts on the shelf.

I know several employees and a manager it's due to demand, not the shootings themselves. It applies to any and all ammo.

Mills Fleet Farm has had a 10 box limit/case limit in place since before I started shopping there. This is the kind of "spreading the wealth" I can understand and support.

I was at Cabela's in Hammond, IN on Sunday. The gun counters and shelfs are nearly empty. Limiting ammo purchases wouldn't surprise me at all.

The gun show "Creeps" are buying up ammo at Cabelas and Walmart etc. They are puttng this on their tables with Big mark ups. These are the bastards that are hurting all of us. They clean the shelves and increase the prices.
Cabelas is trying to protect their customers from these rip offs. No this will not stop these guys and their family members from buying 1,000 rounds at a time.

Same signs here in Maine, and it's because of the panic buying. Folks were going in with their credit cards, clearing out entire shelves, and running for the truck.
