Gotta throw my .02 in at this point.

There has been a significant shift in culture and education over the past 20-30 years. Today, children are taught your ok, they're ok, everyone is ok. There is no such thing as evil. Truth is all relative.

Then something like Columbine happens, or 9/11, or Ft Hood, etc. In a world where there is no evil, events like these make no sense. The human mind has no grid to put these events into perspective, thus it is left searching in never ending loops trying to figure out what happened.

and on the topic of closure - nobody is going to find/get closure from their parents, counseling, therapy, a movie or a book. Dealing with adversity/traumatic events and being able to move forward in life comes from within.

Specifically regarding these kids affected in the Columbine shooting each will need to find closure for themselves and most likely for each it will be different. My prayers and hopes are that each will and go on to happy and successful lives.

Murf- I get what you're saying, at least I think I do. I think we are just disagreeing, which is not a problem. Maybe we will just have to agree to disagree on closure?

ScottA- These events are very rare, but becoming more common, and so it becomes very hard to dissect such a tragedy when you have nothing of previous knowledge to compare it to. We learn through experience for them most part, so when you have no experience, and people telling you a hundred different things, it becomes almost impossible to get a good understanding if what actually happened.

dog- I have to whole-heartedly disagree that people won't find closure from those sources. It is very possible to find some (not all) closure from those sources, and that can give a person a huge push to move in the right direction and find that closure they really need. And if those sources are the actual problem, then you can find full closure there. Closure is finding acceptance for it within yourself, nobody can tell you that they can give it to you. That would be a lie. I'm not saying that it is impossible to find closure on your own, but having others to help is certainly beneficial.

You take care as well, Murf! Thank you, to both of you, for not only the comment, but for giving me someone to discuss this with. I really do appreciate it
