i'll give it another shameless bump as well, just because it's an awesome idea.

Where do I and the rest of my family sign? I am also sure I can get a large number to sign from my VFW post. Hey, a good way to get new members to join the forum.

Keep it short and succinct.

After that they ask that you write your text of your petition, they suggest that you keep it to 1-2 sentences (I have seen some that are several sentences long). Again, short and sweet gets the message across. Note that everyone who does sign the petition once it is started has the opportunity to write their reason for signing. Also, there is no mechanism in place to sign against it (though someone can start a new petition that would be in favor of renewing the AWB).
My suggestion is:
Reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban would do absolutely nothing to stop crime. The firearms targeted by the ban are widely used by firearms enthusiasts for a wide variety of legitimate reasons, and their use in crime is nearly zero. Punishing law abiding firearms owners by banning their guns is a violation of the Second Amendment.

OK, are we good with this language or do we need to work it over some more?
Sig, are you out there? Chime in.

Still waiting on Sig at this point. If we don't hear from him tomorrow I will pick it up and run with it. In the meantime take the time to think of all the different places you can post a link to the petition. I would like to hit it hard and fast so that MoveOn doesn't know what hit them. I am thinking maybe have a build-up period for a few days or maybe a week where we prime the pumps and then let loose all at once, writing the petition and having people sign up and sign it in just a few days or maybe even a few hours. That will give them less time to respond if they decide to try.

Also thinking of making a facebook page with the petition and getting judges, congressmen, and other people to like the page. That will be very powerful to get them on board.
