I'm opposed to not being able to own fully auto weapons but I think they're a waste of ammo

OK, this is just an idea but hear me out before you start ripping into me.

How about writing up and posting this petition on Moveon.org??? They are about as far left liberal as one can get, BUT they do not restrict what a petition can be about as far as I have seen (yes, I lurk around there to see what is going on on that side of the fence- its good tactics. Know your enemy.) They get lots of attention from liberals, and since this petition would be aimed at the left it would be taken more seriously by them. Just think about it. It would seriously mess with their minds.

Actually this suggestion has merit. Sort of goes right along with Sun Tzu.

I do not know if they would know what to do with it.

I do see petitions there that most of us would never expect to see on radical left wing organization like MoveOn. There was one supporting the California Game commissioner who had hunted a mountain lion out of state and was hung out to dry over it by the liberals (he was deposed as the Commission president over it and he probably won't be reappointed come January).

Go here to start a petition http://signon.org/create_start.html?rc=homepage

They even have a tab where you can target the White House and Congress with your petition with one click.

OK, lets get started. To start the petition it needs to have a title. I propose "Do Not Renew The Assault Weapons Ban"

Keep it short and succinct.

Since it goes with the 2nd amendment i was thinking "We The People" , its a more powerful title imo

Sig, too broad. doesn't convey what the petition is about. need something that is short and sweet about what the petition is in favor of or against.

Next is the target, this is obvious- the White House and Congress.

After that they ask that you write your text of your petition, they suggest that you keep it to 1-2 sentences (I have seen some that are several sentences long). Again, short and sweet gets the message across. Note that everyone who does sign the petition once it is started has the opportunity to write their reason for signing. Also, there is no mechanism in place to sign against it (though someone can start a new petition that would be in favor of renewing the AWB).

My suggestion is:

Reinstating the Assault Weapons Ban would do absolutely nothing to stop crime. The firearms targeted by the ban are widely used by firearms enthusiasts for a wide variety of legitimate reasons, and their use in crime is nearly zero. Punishing law abiding firearms owners by banning their guns is a violation of the Second Amendment.
