My new mini 14 came with a rail and scope rings any suggestions

You chose the rail. Keep the rings in the box that the rifle came in. It will increase resale value later on.

What is this resale he speaks of? What would cause someone to get rid of a perfectly good firearm? Confused...

if he ever did decide to sell it. people's tastes in firearms change sometimes over time. i know mine have. and if he decided later on he wasn't happy with his Mini, with the original box, paperwork and accessories that came with it, it will bring a better price.
