Default a threat to the mini?

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2014/09/foghorn/ruger-announces-ar-556-modern-sporting-rifle/

is ruger's new $600+ AR going to be a threat to the existence of my beloved mini 14?

or just an attempt to cash in a niche they have been missing out on?

it reminds me a lot of my s&w m&p sport....but its a bit cheaper i think....

does the mini still have a niche to fill in an AR crazed world?

It does for me, that's one gun I haven't owned or shot yet. But I always liked it and will hopefully own one soon.

I never saw the purpose in the mini 14. What need does it fill that an AR doesn't?
As a matter of full disclosure, I have owned more than one AR and never even held a mini.

i think just the fact that it ISN"T an AR answers your question at least a little bit.

a mustang may be a fine sports car. but because it is a fine sports car, does it eliminate the need for every other sports car....i mean a mustang works good and looks nice....

for some people, an AR ain't the cat's meow. they may recognize it is a good gun, with many fine qualities, yet not entirely embrace it.

i mostly disliked the aesthetics of the AR. they all looked the same, and i didn't like the look (past tense). so i was looking for another auto loader in 5.56 nato....what was there? the mini 14. and honestly there still isn't much else.

you might be surprised. do you like the 10/22 at all?

do you have any interest in combat carbines from the past?

and lets be honest a bit here mccool...what NEED does your AR fill?

do you carry to duty? combat? do you regularly hunt with it?

if your answer is none of the above, you don't need an AR...you want an AR.

and what role does an AR fill for you that you honestly think a mini could not? they fire the same round at the same rate....please explain.

a mini is a 10/22 with a bigger boom. you would like it imo.

maybe that isn't enough for you to want to purchase one, but i still think you would really like it.

they are pretty cool. they are constantly compared to an AR, yet in all honesty....the only thing they have in common are that they are 223 and semi auto.

i'm glad i have an AR, but i like my mini better. and that is a personal preference, not a claim that the mini is a better gun.

everyone i ever let shoot my mini, has loved it.
