Target model - harmonic balancer setting
I can't seem to dial in my harmonic balancer for a consistent good result. I know every rifle is going to be different, but wondered if there is any trends.

I'm using 55 gr. bullets.

Where do you have your harmonic balancer set? (number of turns in or out, pls)

maybe tri will come along in a bit....think he has a target and gets good results....

I can get groups at - or even a tad under - 1" with good ammo but then can't seem to replicate those results on the next session.

that is how a target should shoot! :)

however, i would assume it should hold that zero. so many factors can come into play there...

1) using same exact ammo brand (or load) and weight?
2) are you sure your scope holds zero?
3) checked scope rings for loosening? (this has happened to me)

as for the harmonic balance(r), if that is the issue, i have no experience with them at all. tri will be along to chime in, i think. he is a very good shot and knowledgeable about the mini in general. he owns a target version, so he'll be able to help you more with this issue i think.

i'm always happy to provide no help at all! ;)

:) Thanks for the suggestions, but those factors are all good. Scope is new, mounts are tight, etc. I was just wondering whether there is a setting that most people find works pretty good. I seem to get good results around 2-2.5 turns in but not consistently.

The tuning if the balancer can be a trick but is great if know your bullet/powder combo. I reload so I can see a difference on settings. When shooting with fast powders like RL7, H4198, RL10,AA2015 I will set the balancer with 1/4" off the muzzle. When shooting medium powders H335, Varmint, CFE223 I like setting the balancer 1/2" off the muzzle.
I shoot 55 gr Nosler BT or Combined Tech bullets with above powders.

Factory loads are most likely using medium powder so try setting with 1/2" off the muzzle.

Here is 55 gr Nosler Combined Tech with 27 gr CFE223 and setting 1/2 off the muzzle.

Here is Nosler 55 gr BT over 21.5 gr RL7 with a setting of 1/4" off the muzzle.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I've been spending too much time fiddling around with the balancer set too far back. I've only loaded Benchmark, too.

Appreciate the info, bud.

This place has some H335 powder which is about the best all around 223 powder for 55 gr bullets.,3641.html

Varmint powder shoots great also out of my target model.,6504.html
