Scope recommendations for new mini 14 ranch riffle?
 

I'm looking for scope options for my ruger mini 14..I have an extra nikon prostaff 3-9 sitting around..but would like some other ideas..gonna use it for all purpose hunting when dual seasons are in like turkey/deer...

I have the Nikon Prostaff on my mini 6.8 and its doing well, it's been there for 2 yrs. Also I have buffers on the front and back of the op rod, made from vacuum cleaner belt.

I had a Nikon 3x9x40 on my mini and it was a great scope, but I replaced it with a Burris Fullfield II E1. I love having the ballistic reticle. It really simplifies 200 and 300 yard shots. But I wouldn't think twice about putting the Nikon back on if I weren't planning on shooting over 150 yards. :)

I've always found that a fixed 4 power or fixed 6 power scope has been the best for me on my mini's.( exclusively Weavers) I have yet to have a fixed power scope damaged to my mini's recoil. My mini's are my Jeep/truck guns so they are always subject to my off roading bucking.

I also dont shoot past 200yards for animals I have other rifles for that.

I have the Nikon P-223 3-9x40 BDC scope on my Mini and really like it.

I use a Burris Tac30 1-4x24mm scope. Best of both worlds, 1x for quick target acquisition and x4 magnification on longer shots.

I was looking at a Weaver Classic V10.

I'm running a Simmons 2-6x32 handgun scope forward-mounted on my ranch rifle, and I like it.

You should be good with the 3-9x, though.

The Mini is not a target friendly gun w/o modifications. 100 yds is pretty much max range - how much mag do you need for that ?

Minis shine in their ability to be quick handling and fast firing platforms - both qualities will be degraded w heavy glass & mag.

Fixed scopes have taken more abuse in my experience and generally cost less which is a bonus. I have 4X on one mini and a 3-9 someone gave me on another which has never been above 6X. Both are WAY too top heavy and balance accordingly. Love it off the bench, hate it in the field. New Leupold 4X w be optima if it wasn't so expensive.

I agree with Gonzilla. I have a 2-1/2 power on my ranch rifle.
