Default mini 14 shooting challenge #1 update 7/21/12

as of TODAY, five shooters have successfully beat the first challenge. the results are as follows, from the first to the most recent:

masterPsmith: beat the 50 yard iron sight challenge, going three for three on posted targets. (perfect 15 of 15 on target). masterp's targets and info are located on page5.

51colt: beat the 100 yard scoped challenge, going 2 for 3 on posted targets (13 of 15 on target). 51's targets and info can be found on page 6 & 7.

hawkguy(me!): beat the 100 yard scoped challenge (on 2nd attempt), going 2 for 5 on posted targets (19 of 24 on target). my targets and info are located on pages 5, 6, & 13.

riverRat68: beat the 100 yard scoped challenge, going 2 for 4 on posted targets (best i can tell). looks like a total of 14 of 15 on target for challenge. rat's targets are posted on page 16, info on page.

tri70: beat the 100 yard scoped challenge, but need details and final target posted to be "official."

Default Mini-14 Challenge Phase II ???

hawkguy, do you think we should go into a Phase II, to keep this going?? As I suggested in #176, I think it would be great to move to 150 yards. Any new shooters would have to beat the 100 yard challenge before moving on to the 150 yard challenge. Just a sugggestion to keep the Challenge active.

Default participation update 7/21/12

all shooters who have participated in the challenge: masterp, hawkguy, 51colt, tlurker, steve4102, riverrat68, tri70

shooter's "IN," but have yet to shoot: 67rschev, wes213, carpboy.

shooter's i think might be in? kg71l, cuba, orrienteer.

THANKS to all participants! even if you have not had time to shoot, the active discussions have been helpful to all posters. i am very satisfied with the shooting challenge, and predict that future shooting threads will be successful.

challenge is still open to everyone. you can join now, or shoot now if you haven't already. feel free to post ANY targets you wish, just to show off and talk about shooting. if you have already beat a challenge, i don't think ANYONE hasd beat both scope and irons yet?

keep shooting and posting!

riverrat, i really appreciate your shooting, participation, and input. btw, that 150 yard target looks awesome!

i'm not sure that i want to change this particular shooting challenge. there are still several shooters who have not beat it, and it is still open for others to join. like i said in the previous post, we still haven't had anyone beat both scope and irons....that could be you, river rat!

imo, once this one completley "fizzles out," i will consider closing it, OR we just start another challenge. of course, i am not "the man" on this board, so maybe we should all collaborate on when we start the next challenge and what it will be.

how bout, when its time to start another challenge, we get a thread going for board ideas on shooting challenges. i have an idea for one, but i would like input as to what y'all think about it.

everyone, correct me if i'm wrong, but i think this challenge still has a bit of life in it. anyone out there still want to shoot this one?

I'm still wanting to shoot it again. It may be good to let it run for a couple more months, we are still experiencing 100 deg heat. Makes it tough to get out unless real early or late. I try to watch for cloudy days to get out and temps at 90 or below.

I still want to beat the 50yd iron sight challenge. I am redoing my mini. I have a new front sight that is much better than the stock sight and removing the scope to shoot my iron sights should help a lot. My mini is all set up and i have a hundred rounds loaded but i have not been able to get to the range. My wife and i just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary, My eighteen year old granddaughter had a baby girl last week making me a great grandfather so i have been busy hope to get out to the range next week.

As I shoot irons only, I will try to get out soon and shoot 100yds with match ammo. Maybe my 60 yr old eyes will cooperate......

I'm hoping to try again in couple of weeks? I can't wait to try my loads with the scope locked in place but I've had a lot of family issues to attend to along with several projects that I'm trying to finish up. So shooting is on the back burner right now.

Default Mini-14 Chalenge Phase II??

hawkguy; my idea was not to close out the 100 yard challenge, but to advance to the next stage of difficulty, after beating the first stage. After the 150 yard, maybe we could advance to the 200 yard challenge. (then call it quits there). Just a suggestion, and a goal to strive for.
