Default New Purchase Serial # Advice

New member here and mini newb. I plan to buy one when the prices settle down. I intend to get a ranch rifle. Other than the serial number beginning with 580 are there any other number designations I should look for to ensure I get a gun that has the latest improvements?

In December I anticipated new gun legislation here in Maryland and I snatched up four 20 round ruger mags. Since then they've banned ARs and limited mags to ten rounds, but mine are grandfathered. So, I'm committed to the rifle and hoping to get a good apple.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Some of the 580's had the non-flanged barrel. I would look for a 580 with a flanged barrel, or a 581 or 582.

The newest 582's are coming with a picatinny rail that can be mounted via threaded holes in the top of the receiver.

This place has some decent prices but I don't know about stock.

They should be the newer thicker barrel 582 models but always ask.

Thanks. That's exactly what I needed to know. I'm gunning for the most up-to-date barrel, and the picatinny would be a good option to have on hand.

I dug around some more after posting to make sure this info hasn't been covered on the forum but couldn't find specifically what I was looking for (I'm sure it's on here somewhere).

So thanks again!
