New Mini 30 & Berdan Primers
Added to my Rugers, a new "all weather" Mini 30. Has anyone here had any experience shooting the Russian ammunition with berdan primers with a newer model M30 with the tapered barrels? Has been cold enough here have not gone out to the range to try the rifle out yet myself. I know there are springs out there to help the firing pins strike with more force, hoping maybe the newer models do not need modifications. Reading the owners manual Ruger is still calling for 7.62X39 USA spec ammo. Thank you in advance for your info!

A lot of people shoot Wolf or other miliarity ammo without problems, pins don't break that often.

Stay away from Tula unless you like lots of misfires. Silver Bear worked best in the steel cases.

Thanks for the info.. Sounds like I need to go ahead and sight it in and see how it runs, befor any mods.. Just had the time with the way our weather has been.

That is a great read. Justification for the numbers in my gun safe - would hate to wear a rifle out!

Took the 30 out this weekend to sight it in with my hollow point ammo. Had about a 50% failure rate with the off shore ammo I have. Bought it so long ago, it does not have any brand on the boxs. The 30 was easy to get sighted in though and the 3X9 Burris Timberline scope was nice and bright. Rifle shot well enough, I am going to hang on to it and get the firing pin and trigger springs ordered and installed. You would think Ruger would get these so they would handle all 7.62x39 ammo right out of the box, what are they thinking???
