Default my new project

i had been saving for months, and not really finding anything that "stood out"....ever since the mini stainless tactical models came available again, i have been wanting one....

....so i pulled the trigger!

so another mini project....i'm looking forward to it!

i had a few pleasant surprises at pick up. ruger was good enough to throw quite a few goodies in with this bad boy....some i was not expecting.

TWO 20 round mags (nice! )
scope rings
receiver rail
sling (cheap n basic, but still a nice gesture!)
litigation device (lock )

i keep hearing bad things about ruger QC....but JUST upon a glance, i think this rifle might be more refined than my 580 series from years back. polish and finish look better overall. and my gas block appears to be evenly gapped! hopefully, she functions as good as she looks!

noticed the new drilled & tapped receiver for the supplied rail. rumor is, the rail will allow bolt removal....if so, this is a great addition by ruger ....though it appears the rail space will be quite limited.

now...on to a new project!

of course hawkguy ain't rollin' with that plastic stock......

now.....

1) replace hideous hand guard.
2) sling
3) 1-3 scope or reflex red dot

this one will be a KISS build. any suggestions appreciated.

Isn't your other Mini scoped and wood stocked? If so, maybe a reflex sight on an Ultimak rail. Maybe a nice Eotech? If you have the skills or the budget I really like the work Great West Gunsmithing did on mine. Trigger job, bedding and barrel cut, crown and threading to handle common muzzle breaks. I didn't add a strut, but may do so this winter just because I can. Enjoy the build. Should be fun to shoot no matter where you go with it.

thanks for the input. i am leaning away from a scope i think, probably more towards a reflex sight like a burris fast fire, likely on the provided rail. ultimak is also a consideration....i would like a wood hand guard but they have gotten tough to find. i dunno if i will add a strut or not, i will try it out w/o it first.

i've got time, i'm in no rush.

burris fastfire might look something like this. i dunno if the ruger rail provided could accommodate it. this one shows the GG&G mount i think.

EDIT: could you guys throw me some ideas on red dots mounts over the action? i have seen some use one ring on the forward mount and that looks like a good solution.

and recommendations on red dots welcome, i am not very knowledgeable. don't know if i'm willing to spend the coin on something like an aimpoint, and if i did it would take some time to save for it.

improved irons is also an option. though i may be in the minority thinking the ruger irons are pretty decent.

new hand guard on the way....it can't arrive too soon!

do any of you guys have experience with refinishing stocks? i can't decide if it would be worth it to try and work with this birch....grain ain't the nicest i ever saw, in fact, it doesn't really even have grain....

luckily, i do know a "wood guy"....i'll probably ask him if its worth it. might re-do it and go real real dark on the stain, more of an older military style look. should be cheaper than dishing out for a high quality wood stock....$$$$ cha-ching! i've always had more time than money.
