Mini 30 No mention?

I'm partial to a garand action over a direct impingement action. Like the Mini 14 but want more punch. Also, probably will not be making 200 yard shots, (my range is only 100 yds), and if push comes to shove don't think the action will be over 150 yards. Soooo, I want something that will do a lot of damage within 100 yds. Mini 30 seems like a good choice. Ammo used to be relatively inexpensive. What are anyone's thoughts. Surprised there is not mention of the Mini 30 in any of the threads.

I have some problem with loading of my mini. Although I have checked it carefully, I still can't understand it. Have you any idea.

Mini-14 in 6.8 SPC.

Mini's since they first came out and up to the current 580 series tend to like Ruger brand magazines and others brands not so much. At least thats been my experience with these rifles since 1979.

If your using Ruger brand magazines then it's probably something else awry with your rifle.

You also need to use "American" (brass!) ammo -- not cheap Russian steel-cased.

But it sounds like a decent enough choice...

That's funny that even on the thread labeled "Mini-30 No Mention" the Mini-30 is getting no love. So far a thread hi-jack, some mention of magazines (good advice BTW), and a mention of steel cases being a problem (also good advice).

Yes, where's the love for the Mini-30?

I'm an AR-15 guy, myself, so I guess I won't be helping the love-fest.

I would love a mini 30, I have 2 mini 14 and the other 6.8 mini. Ammo is cheap and plentiful and once the action is broken in and smooth it will shoot anything.

Like hock said. the mini 30 doesnt like cheap ammo normally ran through AK's. The primary issue (from what Ive seen/heard) being light primer strikes. That combined with the price of entry has kept an otherwise great carbine from alot of collections.

+1 on the 6.8 spc version. Same price as the 7.62. Best of both worlds in a ballistic sense. If the Mini-30s your firearm, there's no reason not to go with 6.8, given that you can't run cheap 7.62 anyway.
