I sold a Hi Point 9mm Carbine because it sprayed burned powder at my Lefty Wife's face. She has never complained about that issue shooting either of the Minis I've had. Both a 22 and most pistol carbines are blow back designs which may be part of the problem. With a locked bolt design the pressure should be low by the time the bolt opens..
Sally also never has any issues shooting her Benelli Autoloader which is a right handed gun. Did get her a Left Handed AR Target Rifle as she likes to shoot off the bench and I could find a Stag Left handed one.

I too am surprised by your post---because only my left eye works well (from childhood), I shoot rifles and shotguns left-handed all the the time---pistols right-handed. This has never been an issue for me---I currently shoot two 10-22s and three different Mini 14s---no problems. Also my old Remington Nylon 66 and an FN FAL 308---again, no problems.

I shoot the Mini left handed and have never had a problem in 30 years of usage, same with my 10/22, never had the problem you described OP, maybe I've been lucky all these years.
