And I like the fact that the Mini-14 borrows features from the M14/M1A, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine and M16/M4 (caliber).

Talk about an American Rifle! But 7.62x39 kinda stinks it up a little... (Just kidding!)
until i read this Wikipedia article about the Mini, i didn't even know they were also offered in 6.8 Rem. SPC. they were made in 2007 and discontinued in 2012. now that might be an interesting Mini to own and shoot.

agree 100%. i really wish i could justify another mini in the cabinet, but i just can't.

if i got a new mini tomorrow, it would be a stainless tactical in a wood stock, and of course i'd throw that factory HG in the trash and replace it with the choate.

ruger started making the stainless tactical as part of their regular offerings, just to torture me!

I also hate Ruger's standard handguard. And it's annoying that it scrapes the bluing off the high spot of the op rod. You don't notice it until that spot is well worn.

yup, i am of the belief that ruger paid someone extra to think of how they could make their hand guard both extra ugly AND impractical.

Is there paid DNC plants on this site just to annoy the usual people? Seems to be a couple folks with some interesting posts.

Back on track. Just loving my Mini since I got it back from John Baker at Great West. Trigger is sweet and the forward mounted Aimpoint I installed is a lot of fun. And keeps my groups within reasonable limits.

But now that I have ventured into the semi auto world, I can't help be curious about the AR platform. Never fired one...this cpuld be trouble.

Just put a nice Ultimak rail on there and then you don't need the Choate. 😄
