Default Install flash hider yourself?
Should a normal guy who's just a shooter and not a gun tech buy a rifle with the flash hider already installed or is it easy to do? I like the wood furniture but it looks like only the "tacticool" version comes with it.

If the barrel is not already threaded for a flash hider do not try it yourself. Buy one with the flash hider on it. It must be precisely centered also and some machine shops would probably mess it up.

If you get one with a factory one installed, check to see what the thread pitch is, Ruger used a couple standard pitches but you have to know which one is on your gun.

Some are pin on with a roll pin that slides over the barrel and front sight. You just have to use a longer roll pin that goes thru the front sight. This option is for minis without a factory brake. Mo-Rod has some nice custom pin on brakes for minis without the factory install.

Guess I'll have to settle for that black poly and then search used market for a some wood.
