I have two M1A's......a loaded model with the walnut Stock and a Socom 16....both are such nice shooting, well built rifles that they are worth the price. I definitely would check out a 7.62x51 in the same m14 style if Ruger decided to venture that way.
I hear Fulton Armory makes a sweet m14 variant as well.

I only have one Mini 14. It has the Mo-Rod and Mo-reaper on it, both are functional and did improve accuracy quite noticeably. Shooting 4 inch groups at 100 yards with South African milsurp ammo. I have not developed a good handload yet due to the scarcity of powder. Took this picture today with my friend Karim, the anti-gunner, getting ready to shoot it. Today was his first day shooting in his life. I am not sure if we made a full convert yet, but he is definitely in the pipeline now!

Howell: Yeah, no crap. They outta be nice: $1700 starting for a garand, $2800 starting for a m1a. The 50 cent raise I received today, the first in ten years, won't cover that in a year.

Here is Karim with the Garand. He preferred the Mini 14 though.

Newbie + recoil = love for smaller calibers.

Viking, sounds like an excellent time. I'm glad you're taking a newbie shooting. That's the best way to win this battle with the gun-grabbers: convert everyone to our side!

Geez talk about price increase. I paid a bit more then $2800 for both my M1As combined. That was early 2012. Still I saw them at gun shows starting at $1600 just a few weeks ago....that's way south of $2800.

Yeah the only m1a I've seen going upwards of $2800 are the national match ones with all the goodies added on. My lgs has the Socom and scout squad for about $2000 on the nose. Love love love that gun.
