I got a chance to do a little shooting today with my oldest son. We took the Mini-30, Colt 5.56 and AR 6.5 Grendel. Things didn't go as well as I had hoped, but we had a great time.
I was having issues with my cheap BSA Target scope, I could not get it dialed in, so I swapped it out for a Bushnell 3200 3x9x40. This nonsense took most of my Mini-30 ammo. I only had 15 rounds left to take the challenge.
I shot this target while my son watched through the spotting scope. His words were, "you suck, let me try".
He fired the next five as I watched trough the spotting scope. I said, "you suck, you choked on the 5 and final round, let me show you how it's done".
I fired the last five rounds of the day at this target. As you can see I suck and choked on the fifth and final round as well.

thanks for shooting, steve. hope it wasn't too much hassle to find a spot in the midst of the recent flooding.
which mini 30 was this?
those last two groups look MOA(ish), until the flyer. you say it was the last shot ? did you dump the first round?

Nice shooting Steve by both you and your son! I will see great groups thru my scope and pull the last shot! It's still a great day to shoot even when my targets are not the best.
What load was this?

K&P (Lapua) brass, 28gr AA 2015, 130gr Speer HP, Fed 210M primers.
I have been thinking about these 5th round fliers. Not making excuses, just thinking out loud. Two shooters same gun, same ammo, same fifth round flier, same 5 round Mag. I wonder if the empty mag underneath the last round had something to do with this? I'm going to have to try this again with a 10 round mag loaded with 6 or more and see if I can do better.

5th round flyer? what happened to the first round flyer? surely, this is a new development? seems this 5th round flyer went exactly to the same spot w/2 different shooters.
sometimes i think i get flyers.....but i have never noticed any consistency to them, so i think my flyers are most likely "operator driven flyers."

Good shooting Steve, I have shot a lot of good four round groups that fifth shot can be a b!#ch. Almost makes me want to start shooting three shot groups. I have five 10 round mags all different brands. My best shooting mag is SS and i don't know who made it. I found it in a garbage can at the range. My Ruger 5 round mag shoots the worst groups of any of my mags.
