Nothing like a beautiful walnut stock on a Mini 14. I'm kind of a purest in that regard. If the original version came out of the factory with a wood stock, I keep the wood stock. If it came out plastic, anything goes.

I like a wooden stock as well, and have some incredibly nice stocks on some of my guns, especially my trap guns. Unfortunately, the short length of pull and curved metal butt plate that make getting a good shoulder mount difficult mean I don't shoot it as much as I otherwise probably would.

The Mini-14 is more utilitarian from my point of view, so if I end up going with a synthetic stock, so be it, although after twenty plus years around M-16s and M-4s, I really don't get excited by black guns the way some seem to.

Snakedriver, those are some beautiful stocks, and a good advertisement in themselves.

I went black on my Mini-14. The stock I put on it is a Ramline synthetic. Note the pad on the butt that adds another inch. The pull is 14" on it. The fit was excellent.

Back before I switched to the black Ramline stock I had one of these Choate Tool devices on my Mini-14 wood stock. It is hard rubber and worked pretty good to extend the length of pull on the rifle.

The woodland camo looks better than I could have thought. I might have to check and see how many daddy points I have saved up and talk the old lady into letting me get one.

Was the stock easy to install? Was it just a drop in or did you have to make any mods. to make it work?

Nope very easy to install, the fit was perfect and I didn't have to do a thing to either one. They fit nice and tight with no wiggle or gaps. They really give the guns a nice solid feel after the tupperware stocks that came on them from the factory.

Don't worry about Stocky's saying they are on backorder either. Place your order and usually it will arrive in a week or 10 days. If you have any questions, call them on the phone, I was super impressed with their technical knowledge about their stocks and the various firearms.

I like "Made in Ohio," but "Made in USA" will always fill the bill for me.

I think I have choices narrowed down to either a Hogue Overmolded stock or one of the laminates, either the Bone Gray because I think it would look excellent on my SS Ranch Rifle, or the Buckskin Brown because it looks the most like a real wood stock.

Now to wait until after Christmas to make sure Mrs. Doc hasn't surprised me, or if she decides to put some money in the "Doc Ward Hobby Fund."

Snakedriver, what is the make of the flash suppressor on your Mini? I really like it.
