maybe, but not really. like i said, dpms is basically the only AR company that i know of that competes with a mini's price at this point. i heard too many mixed reviews on the dpms to take a chance. also keep in mind the $100 extra you have to spend just to put sights on some stripped ARs.

still costs between 100-300 more than a mini 14. the so called high quality AR's get into a thousand+ for the most part.
if you want an AR for the same price as a mini, i do suggest the S&W sport. it has been a great rifle for me so far. it truly is price competitive to the mini, coming with sights & ready to go. considering both a mini and the S&W are both about $650 (and the s&w comes with sights), you are actually comparing apples to apples here. of course, i got a stainless mini for the same price as my AR.
i'm not completely disagreeing with you, i think the mini prices have gone up too much lately. but the mini is still normally less expensive than a quality AR., with only a few of the least expensive AR's competing in price.
