I've been looking at the Mini-14 for a while and it is my next buy for sure. What base model did you start with, the tactical?

Edit: Oh yeah, happy birph-day!

My mini 14 came with the synthetic hougue style stock. Its a new 2010 version of the ranch rifle. I added the ATI strike force stock on it and added the red dot. Oh and my birthday is long past. It was July 14th.

Small world, I started with a blue 580 series I bought in June '08. The ATI stock had just come out. I shortened my barrel to 16'', threaded it 1/2''X28'' and installed a Phantom flash suppressor. My barrel schroud I made from an aluminum walking cane. A propoint red/green dot from WallyWorld works great on the Mini. You will like your setup- this stock is fun to shoot with. Congrats on your B'day setup!

I took the top rail off of mine, doesn't work well with the optics, I will be getting the rail that goes on the side cover plate instead. Brings the red dot closer to the eye and you still have the option of using the iron sights.

Looks great!!!

I put one on my 187 series Mini and found the accuracy was not as good as it was with the wood stock.

Bedding the action with Brownells Steel Bed (holds up to the pounding better than any other bedding compound) and then bedding the gas block brought back the accuracy.

Yours may shoot just as well as it did in the factory stock, but if not, bedding will restore the accuracy.

They really are a comfortable stock to shoot with all the adjustments and the rails make it easy to put a light or lazer on it if you like them.

Look pretty darn good too.
